Eagles Swoop on Bearcats

A disciplined performance from Forestville enabled them to pull away from the Lady Bearcats in the second half to record a solid 57 - 41 victory on Saturday night.

The undersized Lady Bearcats played determined defence to start the game and forced 6 turnovers from Forestville in the first quarter, however Mia Newley and Olivia Thompson were both looking dangerous. Forestville exploited their size advantage in defence to keep the Lady Bearcats to 12 points for the quarter and open up a 5 point lead.

The second quarter saw Jess Mahony take responsibility for the Lady Bearcats offence and they won the quarter by a point to go into half time just 4 points down and hopes were high for a close contest.

However Forestville ramped up their defensive pressure after the break to surrender just 15 points in the second half. Their height and intensity at the contest was too much for the smaller Lady Bearcats (winning the boards 53 - 34) and Thompson seemed able to score at will. The game ended with a comfortable 16 point victory to Forestville, although Ashlea Vordermaier and Sky Langenbrinck battled bravely for the home side.

Forestville (27 turnovers) will be looking to tighten up their turnover count when playing the more fancied teams and 12 missed free throws could be the difference in a close game. The Lady Bearcats will need to work on their offence, shooting at only 23% from the field.

Forestville Eagles 57 (Olivia Thompson 21, Mia Newley 13, Tara Robinson 7)
West Adelaide Bearcats 41 (Ashlea Vordermaier 10, Sky Langenbrinck 8, Jess Mahony 6)
