Season Preview - Forestville Women

The gist: The Eagles will be attempting a fourth premiership in five seasons. They fell just short in 2012, losing by a lousy point in the final seconds of their Preliminary Final against Norwood. They have lost a couple of key players in Georgia Minear and Carla Borrego, but could not have asked for a better duo to replace them, with Monica Bello and Mia Newley returning.

The stat: The Eagles’ Preliminary Final loss to Norwood was their first to the Flames since May 7, 2011. The Eagles had won their previous four clashes by an average of almost eight points.

The star: Olivia Thompson was a force to be reckoned with in her first CABL season, averaging 24.4 ppg and 15.1 rpg. Her partnership in the front court with Mia Newley will be one worth watching.

The x-factor: Megan Kermond returns this season after a stint at a US college - will the 22-year-old have an impact?

The glass half-full: The Eagles will again have one of the most talented teams in the competition, and should be extra hungry after failing to add a fourth successive premiership to their cabinet. They have made their premiership runs from low seeds the last two seasons, but this time they should have all their key players on the court from the get-go.

The glass half-empty:It will be interesting to see if there is a change in the wind when Forestville plays Norwood now that the Flames do not have to contend with Borrego’s size and athleticism.

The verdict: The Eagles will be Norwood’s primary challenger in the premiership race.
