Season Launch

The 2013 Central Australian Basketball League tips off on Saturday April 6, with 10 men’s and 10 women’s teams competing.

Players from all clubs attended the season launch at the Adelaide Arena today to participate in media interviews and a photo shoot.

“There will be a lot of talent in the league again this year, with a strong combination of local players, national league players and imports,” said Basketball SA CEO Mark Hubbard.

The men’s league will feature:

  • Adelaide 36ers MVP and Australian Boomers squad member Daniel Johnson, who has signed with West Adelaide.
  • Adelaide 36er and former Australian Junior team member Jason Cadee, who has also signed with West Adelaide.
  • Adelaide 36er Pero Vasiljevic, who is again playing and coaching at North Adelaide.
  • Former Adelaide 36er Darren Ng, who has returned to his junior club Woodville.
  • Adelaide 36ers development player and 2012 CABL Grand Final MVP Adam Doyle, who has resigned with Forestville.

The women’s league will feature 9 players who played in the 2012/13 WNBL season:
Australian Opals squad member Tess Madgen, who played for Bulleen and is returning to South Australia to play with Eastern.
Retiring WNBL player Jess Foley, who played for Grand Finalist Townsville and is returning to South Australia to play with Norwood.
Former Australian junior team members Mia Newley and Olivia Thompson, who also played for Townsville. Both are returning to South Australia to play with Forestville.
Adelaide Lightning players Amy Lewis (Norwood), Molly Lewis (Sturt), Hannah Bowley (Sturt), Jo Hill (North Adelaide) and Jess Good (Norwood).

“It is fantastic to have so many national league players either staying in, or returning to play in South Australia,” said Hubbard.

There will also be 11 US imports playing in the league, headlined by Central Districts’ Kyle Miller, who is returning for his second year, and Tamika Dukes.

Forestville has signed import Jake Rios and will be attempting to win a third consecutive premiership. Former WNBL player Rebecca Duke has returned to play with reigning Women’s premiers Norwood.

The league features an 18 minor round home and away format, with the top five teams qualifying for finals. The Grand Final will be held at the Adelaide Arena on Saturday August 31.
