Pre-Season Tournament

Basketball SA is pleased to announce the details of 2012 Central ABL Pre-season Tournament which will be held at the Pasadena Sports Centre on March 17 and 18.

This year’s event involves 8 men’s teams and 5 women’s teams, and with the tournament being held just two weeks prior to season tip-off, it should give a good early indication of how these teams will fare this year.

The highlight of the men’s draw is a matchup between 2011 grand finalist Norwood and preliminary finalist West Adelaide at 4:30pm on Saturday afternoon. Norwood has lost Nick Hambour, Robin Eley and David Cooper from last year’s team, while West Adelaide has added Josh Knight from Woodville, as well as new import Junior Salters.

West Adelaide’s women will also be on show on Saturday afternoon and will suit Narelle van Leuven (formerly Lindsay) who will play her first Central ABL season since 2006. The Bearcats take on a new-look Woodville side at 3:15pm, the Warriors adding Shay Bayly from Central Districts and welcoming back Katherine Perkas from injury.

The men’s tournament is split into two pools of four teams. Each team plays 3 minor round games plus a grand final or consolation game on Sunday afternoon.

In the women’s tournament, each team plays 4 games across 5 minor rounds with no finals.

Games consist of four 8 minute quarters played under FIBA timing conditions.

Entry is free and all spectators are welcome.
