Rockets prevail despite 19 point quarter from Johnson

Despite the early time slot, the North men came to play, but so did the South men.

In another of the very entertaining games between these two teams over the past few years, the Rockets prevailed by just seven points.

The Panthers were out of the gates early with a huge contribution from Daniel Johnson, who had 19 in the first quarter.  North’s opportunity came when they applied frightening defence and restricted South’s scoring to 13 points compared to the Rockets 22 points in the second quarter.

Josh Bond was the instigator of the intense defence, causing the floor wiper to be active on a number of occasions.  He also troubled the scorers with his trade-mark 3-pointers, ending the game with 20 points, and more rebounds than he should have got.

South never gave up with Johnson re-emerging after a scoreless second quarter.  Disappointing that South’s Shane Boal got fouled out with minutes to go, as a couple of 3-pointers from him could have made the difference for South.

For those that were not at Hillcrest – they missed a great game by both sides.
