Solid start not enough for Tigers

In the first game of the double headers at Morphett Vale on the weekend, Forestville’s women defeated Southern 56 – 90.

During the first quarter Southern kept close to the Eagles, despite Forestville trying to get further and further away. The Eagles took the game from Southern during the second and third quarters, in which they outscored them by 28 points. Southern tried to stay with the Eagles throughout the last quarter, with both teams scoring the same, 17 points.

The top scorers for Eagles were Jess Fergus with 26 points, Georgia Minear with 24 points and Thunderbird Carla Borrego with 19 points on debut. The top scorers for Southern were Madeline Cunningham with 15, (9 of which came from the foul line), Ashleigh Spencer on 14 and Gilly Hendrie scoring 9 points.

Even though Southern kept at it for the whole game, Eagles were just too strong, too good and were the better team on the night.

This win from Eagles took them from being 6th on the ladder to 4th. Before Saturday’s game, Southern was 5th and after their loss became 7th on the ladder.
