Women's Previews - Round 11

North Adelaide Rockets (4-5, 6th) v Sturt Sabres (8-1, 2nd)

North Adelaide will be hoping to avenge its blowout Round 5 loss to Sturt when the two sides face off again on Sunday.

In their last encounter, the Sabres were 98-58 winners in a very lopsided clash.

Going into that match, the Rockets were coming off a tough fixture with Norwood.

This time it is Sturt who will back up after battling the Flames.

If North is to pull off an upset victory, it will need a mighty performance from star player Jo Hill.

The Sabres have plenty of options at the helm, including and Nicole Seekamp and Monique Bowley.

Sturt has been in red-hot form, so expect it to pick up another win here.

Southern Tigers (5-4, 5th) v Eastern Mavericks (0-9, 10th)

The Tigers will be after a repeat of their Round 3 win against Eastern when the teams face off for the second time this season on Sunday.

In their previous match, Southern overcame a shaky start to win 83-57.

Going into the weekend, the Tigers are in the five, but will need a win here to secure their spot.

Only a miracle would see the Mavs going for two straight, with a match against West the previous night.

Madeline Cunningham and Ashleigh Spencer are key players for Southern, while Eastern will rely heavily on Tracey Beatty and Madison Bycroft.

I think the Tigers will win reasonably comfortably.

Woodville Warriors (1-8, 9th) v South Adelaide Panthers (2-7, 8th)

The Warriors will hope to exact revenge on South when the two sides do battle on Sunday.

In Round 5, Woodville was soundly beaten 63-86 at Marion.

The Warriors recently picked up their first win (against the Mavericks in Round 8), while the Panthers beat the Mavericks in Round 9 for win number two.

Ursula Richards and Ashleigh White have been impressive for Woodville, whereas Elizabeth Keane, Simone Nelson and Claire Johnson have been likewise for South.

If the Warriors lose to North on Saturday, they will be playing for their first home win this season, while the Panthers will go in search of their first road win.

South has played better than its record suggests, thus I believe it will get the points here.

Forestville Eagles (4-5, 7th) v West Adelaide Bearcats (7-2, 3rd)

The Bearcats will look to add further salt into the Eagles’ wounds when the two sides clash in Sunday’s Match of the Round.

Forestville has struggled for consistency all season and a loss here would put a dagger through its finals hopes.

West smashed the Eagles 75-44 in Round 5, giving it something to feel good about after last year’s Grand Final loss.

Nikita-Lee Martin, Ashlea Vordermaier, Kerrin Webber and Trudy Holland provide the Bearcats with good options at both ends of the floor.

Georgia Minear is Forestville’s top-scorer, while Jess Fergus has shown great intensity.

Monica Bello and Megan Kermond missed last round’s loss to North; if they are back, then this would be a great boost for the Eagles.

If Forestville does not come out desperate, then this game could get ugly.

Ultimately, I reckon the Bearcats will be too strong.
