Flames over Mavs but not without a Fight

Eastern's Men took it up to league pace-setters Norwood on Sunday, before eventually falling 89-81.

In the men’s encounter on Saturday night, Eastern had the opportunity to inflict the first defeat of the season upon Norwood, only a poor third quarter when they were outscored 31-19 costing victory.

The locals led for the majority of the first half and were still leading 58-56 with less than 4 minutes of play remaining in the third period.

Norwood fired up in the third term, and as the quarter expired, the Flames compiled 12 points with Aaron Bruce the only Maverick to hit a basket for his team during this period.

During the closing term Eastern fought back to level the scores at 78-all with just over three minutes remaining.

The next basket from a foul shot from David Cooper edged the Flames back in front with the 13th lead change of the game before baskets to Todd Matthews, Daniel Webber and points from the foul line saw Norwood edge out an 8 point victory.
