Norwood's women prevail over Eastern

The undefeated Norwood Flames started another tough weekend for Eastern's women, winning 81-33.

The Mavericks women were strengthened for the match by the inclusion of 204cm centre Tracey Beatty, who played with the Canberra Capitals last season in the Women’s National Basketball League.

Also joining the team for her first game was Abby Williams who has been recruited from South Adelaide.

The Mavericks women struggled against the strength and experience of a Norwood team led by Jess Foley, who finished the game top scorer with 18 points, while other quality players in Kelsey Ireland, Lisa Ackroyd and former WNBL player Rachel Herrick, who was matched against Beatty, were also influential.

Norwood held a commanding38-5 lead at half-time, with only Candice Hartman able to score a field goal for the home side during the half.

Following halftime the scoring output improved for the Mavericks as Beatty found the basket from inside the keyway, and Madison Bycroft also converted from inside the paint, while Williams displayed that she will be a useful addition.

The return of guard Alex Wilson after the Easter break will add some firepower to the Mavericks team.

Wilson has been in outstanding form while she has been away at the Under 18 National championships.
