Men's Game Previews - Round 15

(Includes Round 6 Results when the Teams last played)

Norwood Flames v North Adelaide Rockets, Sat, July 3rd, 8.15pm at Mars
Norwood 71 (Corey Ottey 16, Keith Krause 12, Owen Govine 10) defeated
North 65 (Michael Zorich, 13, Rhys Elliott 10, Nick Mikic 8)

Norwood enters this match after a disappointing performance against the Bearcats but it was their first defeat in the last 8 outings. Coach Rupert Sapwell will be keen for that hiccup to be corrected this week with the finals almost upon us. Norwood still holds down second place but has the Sabres and the Rockets breathing down its neck. With little separating the top five sides, head to head results during the season may come into play. For that reason alone the Rockets will be fired up to not only claim a win but a victory by more than 6 points to take the head to head against the Flames. How Norwood's leading players respond to the low scores that they produced last week will have a big bearing on this result. The pairing of Pero Vasilijevic and Nick Hambour will take some overcoming if Norwood is to bounce back into to the winner's circle.

Woodville Warriors v West Adelaide Bearcats, Sat, July 3rd, 8.15pm at St Clair
West 81 (Blake Truslove 26, Josh Bond, Brad Davidson 14, Kurtis Phillips 12, Rory Craddock 10) defeated Woodville 61 (Brady Brink 16, Mark Egel 12, Cameron Wilson 9)

West will have a golden opportunity to strengthen its hold on top spot in this encounter with the Warriors. The Warriors have lost the services of Brady Brink for the remainder of the season and if guard Cameron Wilson misses this game it leaves Woodville severely undermanned against a talent-laden Bearcats team. West centre Chris Molitor will look to claim ‘bragging rights' at the conclusion of this match against his father Mark Molitor who is coaching Woodville. Woodville will need to keep pressure on the outside shooters of West, especially Brad Davidson or they could be staring at their biggest defeat of the season. West hit seven 3 pointers from 30 shots taken in their recent match against South.

Sturt Sabres v Forestville Eagles, Sat, July 3rd, 8.15pm at Pasadena
Sturt 94 (Tom Daly 22, Jacob Holmes 22, Darren Ng 17, Corey Maynard 15) defeated
Forestville 83 (Riley Luettgerodt 32, Nick Blair 20, Brad Gerlach 8)

At the business end of the season, both Coaches will be looking for victory with both Clubs finals-bound. This result will have a big bearing on where the respective clubs finish and whether they are forced into an elimination final at the end of the minor round. For the Eagles, Riley Luettgerodt has been in superb form posting 35 points against Southern and 43 points against Eastern, his highest score for the season. Jacob Holmes for the Sabres has been just as busy, compiling a double – double in eight of his last nine matches since he joined the team this season. Sturt's, Darren Ng found some touch last match hitting 7/15 from outside the arc but the Eagles also possess shooters who can hurt you from outside. Little separates these two sides but the Eagles may hold the edge with the possible absence of some Sturt players overseas.

Central Districts Lions v Eastern Mavericks, Sat, July 3rd, 8.15pm at Starplex
Eastern 110 (Brad Hill 41, Jordan Dodman 22, Shane Breheny 18, Andy Sakkas 14) defeated Centrals 91 (Wade Pidock 20, Matthew Atkins 15)

Eastern will start red hot favourites in this match after their form last weekend in beating the Sabres away at Pasadena and being competitive with Forestville for 3 of the 4 quarters. A poor second quarter score wrecking any chance of a double success against the top sides. The Lions copped a comprehensive loss against the Rockets and then fell in a heart breaker to the Tigers on the last basket of the game. How both teams approach this match could be crucial to the outcome. The Lions have now played 10 matches without tasting success and Eastern have improved their record from 2009 where they registered only 4 wins. On form Eastern should be favourites and they should win. The inclusion of Ben Madgen since the teams last played gives Eastern a two pronged attack with Brad Hill who had a season high 41 points when the teams played at Mount Barker.

South Adelaide Panthers v Southern Tigers,  Sat, July 3rd, 8.15pm at Marion
South 84 (Sammy Gazzo 19, Sam Harding 17, Lachlan Prest 14, Luke Frost 12) defeated
Southern 70 (Tristian Braithwaite 20, Michael Florence 13, Brandon Brine, Shane Boal 11)

In the local derby clash, the near neighbours have had plenty of rivalry over recent years with Southern holding the edge. However, on the last occasion the two sides met in Round 6, South prevailed by 14 points with a dominant second quarter when they outscored the Tigers 21-8. Both teams have won only 3 matches for the season so with finals off the agenda they will be playing for pride and to give their supporters something to cheer about. The returns that Sammy Gazzo (Panthers) and Tristan Braithwaite (Tigers) record will be critical to each team's performance, and they both top scored for their respective teams when the sides last met. Whether South records its third win at home or Southern records its third win away will be determined at the end of this match.
