Men's Game Previews - Round 13
Centrals’ only win for the season was against the Rockets at Hillcrest in Round 4. On that occasion they had an even spread of scorers led by Lachlan Parker and Matt Atkins who finished with 21 points. The Rockets have been strengthened by the inclusion of Pero Vasilijevic who is averaging 21.4ppg and 11.2 rebounds since joining the team. North will need to win both matches this weekend to shore up 4th place on the premiership table.
West have moved to top spot on the premiership table after beating the Lions at home with the highest score of the season so far (116). South dropped their away match to Woodville and it won’t get any easier this round. Brad Davidson (West) was in superb shooting touch nailing twelve 3s from 15 shots taken at 80% on his way to 42 points, a round high score in the Men. South has fallen out of finals contention and West will be keen to retain top spot.
Norwood has won their past 7 games while Woodville have now put together 3 wins in succession. It is unlikely that this game will be decided in overtime as it was the first time the two sides met. Norwood now has the services of David Cooper and has a number of players capable of posting a big score. Woodville had Mark Egel, Josh Knight, Brady Brink and Brad Goodchild as their top scorers last round but the Flames will be keen to keep winning to claim top position at the end of the minor round.
The makeup of the two sides has changed markedly since the sides first met. For the Sabres Darren Ng and Jacob Holmes are scheduled to play and for Eastern they now have the services of Jordan Dodman, Brad Hill and Ben Madgen. Although it is 3rd place playing 7th the winning margin could be closer than most would anticipate depending on the ‘outs’ for Sturt. Eastern lost the first encounter with a poor second half when they were outscored 50 – 33. Eastern needs to win to claim a finals berth - Sturt needs to win to reclaim top spot.
Southern 74 (T Braithwaite 21, M Florence 15, M Paget 9, P Smith 7)
Forestville ended their mini slump with a convincing win over the Rockets when they powered home in the last quarter. Southern recorded their seventh loss in succession when they lost the 3rd and 4th quarters to Eastern. Forestville does have the depth of scorers to worry most sides and need to win this encounter to maintain their hold on 5th place. With so much to play for it is difficult to see Southern breaking their long run of outs. Southern has players capable of posting big scores but they all need to fire on the same night. The Eagles are red hot favourites to win this match after shooting down the Rockets last week.
