Woodville Warriors v South Adelaide Panthers, Sat, June 19th, 8.15pm at St Clair
Woodville put together an even four-quarter performance to claim their 3rd win in succession whilst inflicting South’s 3rd loss in row. With baskets to Ben McKay, Josh Knight, Cameron Wilson and Brady Brink, Woodville slipped away to lead 11 – 2 in the early part of the first quarter. South did close the margin to 4 points (21 – 17) late in the quarter but further baskets to McKay and foul shots to Adam Miller blew the margin out to 10 points at the first break. As the game progressed Woodville extended the margin and at times during the second, third and final quarters they were able to maintain it at a comfortable buffer of 20 points. The Panthers never seriously challenged for the lead after the first quarter. Only Sammy Gazzo, who compiled 20 points, made a meaningful contribution on the score sheet for South. Woodville had a number of contributors: Mark Egel (23 points), Brady Brink (18 points), Josh Knight (14 points) and Ben McKay (10 points) finished as their major scorers.

West Adelaide Bearcats v Central District Lions, Sat, June 19th, 8.15pm at Port Adelaide
West had a convincing win over the Lions at Port Adelaide but didn’t have it all their own way in the first half, the Lions surprising most tipsters by leading at the end of the first quarter 29 – 27. West reclaimed the lead by halftime and by the end of the third quarter appeared to be in control. A last quarter blitz of 35 points to 15 saw the Bearcats post the highest game score for the season - they finished with 116 points even though this season the quarters have been reduced to back to 10 minutes. West guard Brad Davidson finished the round high scorer with 42 points, his haul including twelve 3 pointers at a staggering conversion rate of 80%. In the last quarter explosion, West fired home seven 3 pointers at 77.8%. As well as Davidson, the Bearcats had Chris Molitor, Blake Truslove and Kurtis Phillips all in double figures. For the Lions, import Wade Pidock finished their highest scorer with 23 points, Zane Reeves with 21 points was not far behind, and Gary Birmingham was the only other Centrals player in double figures.

North Adelaide Rockets v Forestville Eagles, Sat, June 19th, 8.15pm at Hillcrest
With so much at stake, North jumped out of the blocks leading early in the first quarter until Forestville hit back in the later part of the quarter. After an Adam Doyle basket with 6 seconds left Forestville led at the end of the first period 20 – 18. Little separated the two sides in the second period with the Eagles adding 23 points for the quarter and North contributing 21 points, both Riley Lutttergerodt and Nick Blair active for Forestville and the outside shooting of the Rockets keeping them in the game. In the third quarter the Rockets outplayed the Eagles adding 26 points to 12 as they appeared to take control of the game, Forestville struggling offensively. With less than 2 minutes of the third period to play, North extended the margin out to 13 points after a Pero Vasilijevic basket. The last score of the term, a 3 pointer to Luttergerodt, reduced the margin to 10 points, 65 – 55.  In the last quarter it was all one way traffic as Forestville piled on 30 points to 12, with Eagles guard Adam Doyle’s 12 points doing the damage. Doyle’s basket with 2.27 left regained the lead for his side 73 – 71 and they were never headed from that point.

Southern Tigers v Eastern Mavericks, Sat, June 19th, 8.15pm at Morphett Vale
In the early minutes of the first quarter, Eastern blasted out of the blocks rattling on 12 points before the locals scored. In that early break Jordan Dodman, Ben Madgen, Brad Hill and Shane Brehney all scored. That quartet finished the top four scorers for Eastern on the night combining for 87 of Eastern’s final score of 96 points. The Tigers’ Tristan Braithwaite with three 3 pointers in the first period kept the locals in touch and at quarter time only 4 points separated the sides, Eastern in front 26 – 22. The teams traded baskets in the second quarter and at halftime the margin was still 4 points, the Mavericks up 52 - 48. Eastern increased the margin further in the third quarter and by midway through the last had extended it to 20 points. In the closing minutes Southern reduced the margin without ever threatening to take the game.  The trio of Tristan Braithwaite, Brandon Brine and Shane Boal did the bulk of the scoring for the Tigers in their 7th straight loss.

Norwood Flames v Sturt Sabres, Sat, June 19th, 8.15pm at Mars
Sturt dropped to 3rd place as a result of their defeat by the Norwood Flames. Norwood has now strung together 7 victories on the trot since the return of David Cooper and Keith Krause from injury. Only 2 points separated the sides at halftime with Sturt narrowly winning the first quarter 18 – 16 and Norwood claiming the second period 21 – 17. In the first half guard Todd Matthews was active for Norwood and Jacob Holmes and Darren Ng were productive for the Sabres, Ng hitting three 3’s. Norwood’s win was set up by a big 3rd quarter when the Flames outscored the Sabres 30 – 18. During the 3rd, Matthews was again amongst the scorers and guard Andrew Webber hit three 3’s out of Norwood’s 6 for the period. The Sabres in the last did make some headway into the 14 point three quarter time defecit with the scores 67 – 53. With less than 2 minutes to play the Flames held just a slender 3 point buffer 76 – 73. Webber then hit his fourth 3 pointer and after foul shots were awarded with 18 seconds left following disqualification fouls against Corey Maynard, Andrew Webber and Jacob Holmes, the final margin edged out to 9 points ( 82 – 73).
