Women's Reviews - Round 7

South Adelaide Panthers v Eastern Mavericks
The Panthers secured victory against the Mavericks at home by dominating play in the last quarter when they piled on 21 points to 7, to run out 15 point winners 78 – 63. For the home team, Claire Johnson was a standout with 27 points, including seven 3 pointers. She was well supported by Sarah Peddle with 13 points. Taya Crockford made a valuable contribution not withstanding that she appeared to injure herself in the 3rd quarter but finished the match. Eastern's demise stemmed from its inability to find consistent scorers to support Tess Madgen who finished the game high scorer with 35 points. In the first half Madgen was the shining light for her team scoring 21 of her team's 26 points but she played a lone hand.

Woodville Warriors v North Adelaide Rockets
In what some punters may see as the upset of the round, the Warriors defeated the Rockets 74 – 57 with their highest score of the season. Both teams were evenly matched on the scoreboard for the first three quarters with only 4 points separating the two sides at the last break, the home side narrowly in front 50 - 46. The Warriors' Claire Christie (pictured) helped her side clinch a well earned victory knocking down three 3 pointers in the last period. In the final 7 minutes of the contest the Warriors able to outscore their opponents 18 - 9.  Christie finished with 23 points, including five 3s from six attempts. In her first game for the season Ingrid Richards' 13 points was damaging and Jodie Barratt finished with a double of 10 points and 16 rebounds. Jo Hill (14 points, 12 rebounds) and Shannon Mckay were the only players in double figures for the Rockets. Carla Boyd and Tania Dhu did not suit for the visitors.

Norwood Flames v Southern Tigers
The Southern Tigers were no match for the Norwood Flames after the first quarter onslaught when the Flames rattled on 33 points with an even spread of scorers. Zara Olekalns hit the first basket of the night, a three pointer and from that point the Flames were never headed opening up a 23 point break at the end of the first period 33 - 10. Although the Tigers matched it with the Flames for the remaining three quarters the break was established in the first. The Flames had four players in double figures with Jess Foley leading all scorers with 27 points. Rebecca Duke had a double of 12 points and 11 rebounds.  The top three scorers for the visitors were Alexandra Ciabattoni 17 points, a junior playing her first game for the season, Ashleigh Spencer 13 points and Gilly Hendrie 12 points.

Sturt Sabres v West Adelaide Bearcats
The Sabres maintained their unbeaten record when they defeated the Bearcats 50 - 46 at Pasadena in a low scoring encounter. On a night where baskets were at a premium for both sides, only four players (Sturt's Caroline Burgess 15 points, Monique Bowley 10 points, Bearcats' Kerrin Webber 15 points and Nikita–Lee Martin 14 points) finished in double figures. West Adelaide won the 1st half 26 – 11 but the Sabres were able to win the all important 3rd and 4th quarters 28 – 20 to establish the 4 point winning margin. The result was not a good send off for West's playing Coach Sam Woosnam who is not available for the next few rounds of matches.
