Men's Previews - Round 7

Darren Ng

South Adelaide Panthers v Eastern Mavericks, Sat, May 1st, 8.15pm at Marion
The Men's contest has as much riding on it as the women's game with both teams just sitting outside the top five. Whichever team suffers a loss could see them three wins adrift of 5th position with plenty of ground to make up in the second half of the season. The Panthers' trio of Sam Gazzo (21 ppg), Luke Frost who is rarely rested and Steve Pilkington will need to be on song for the locals to grab victory. For Eastern (almost at full strength) Coach Steve Breheny will be looking for a solid team performance, but Brad Hill, Shane Breheny, Jordan Dodman and Ben Dearman should stand out on recent performances.

Woodville Warriors v North Adelaide Rockets, Sat, May 1st, 8.15pm at St Clair
Woodville, on a four game losing streak, host the visiting Rockets side who lost a close encounter with the Norwood Flames last match. Woodville Coach Mark Molitor would be keen to arrest the slide. The Rockets team is expected to win but are in a mini slump losing 2 of their last 3 games. The Rockets appear to have a more even spread of scorers available with Michael Zorich, Nick Hambour and Matthew Lycett all capable of putting up big numbers. For the Warriors the bulk of the scoring has fallen on American Brady Brink but he has had support from Josh Knight, Mark Egel and Cameron Wilson.

Norwood Flames v Southern Tigers, Sat, May 1st, 8.15pm at Mars
With the home side sitting 5th on 4 wins and the visitors sitting 8th with 2 wins the locals would start clear favourites. The recent inclusion of Keith Krause for Flames adds more dept to their squad. They still have a number of key players out but with Corey Ottey, Andrew Webber and Todd Mathews doing the bulk of the scoring so far this season the Flames should have more firepower at their disposal. For the Tigers, Shane Boal, Tristan Braithwaite and Brandon Brine have been doing the bulk of the scoring but it may not be enough if the trio doesn't get more support on the score sheet.

Sturt Sabres v West Adelaide Bearcats, Sat, May 1st, 6.30pm at Pasadena
The traditional rivals should also provide the men's game of the round with top place up for grabs for the winner. With both teams winning their last 4 outings, little should separate the two sides at the end of the night. Both teams are loaded with NBL experienced players. The Sabres have Darren Ng, Todd Gower and Jacob Holmes who joined the Sabres last match while the Bearcats have Brad Davidson, Christopher Molitor and Blake Truslove. The winner of the battle of the boards may well decide the outcome of this game. Last round Holmes grabbed 19 rebounds against the Eagles and Truslove pulled in 16. This top of the table clash should be an exciting and tense affair with the victor claiming top spot.
