Women's Previews - Round 7

South Adelaide Panthers v Eastern Mavericks, Sat, May 1st, 6.30pm at Marion
The result of the clash at Marion Stadium between the Panthers and the Mavericks is vital in both teams' quest to play off in the finals at the end of the season. With little separating the two sides the encounter promises to be a hotly contested affair. South and Eastern are currently sitting on two wins and four losses with both successful at their last outings, the Panthers defeating the Southern Tigers by 5 points 70-65 and the Mavs convincing winners against the Lions 88-41. Each team has players capable of influencing the result. The visitors will need to restrict Panthers Claire Johnson and Cassandra Carpenter. The Mavs ace is league leader Tess Madgen (31.3ppg & 13.8 rpg).  Promising junior Cody Lange rejoins the team after state netball commitments.

Woodville Warriors v North Adelaide Rockets, Sat, May 1st, 6.30pm at St Clair
The Rockets should have too much height and experience for the Warriors to overcome. With experienced players Tania Dhu and Olympians Carla Boyd and Jo Hill, Coach Mike McKay will not want to let this match slip. For the Warriors, American Mackenzie O'Neil has been a good pickup and she has been well supported by Brooke Gathercole, Claire Christie and Katherine Perkas. The Rockets should have too many scoring options for the Warriors to control. Bec Lock for the Rockets has produced good numbers over the past two games scoring 20 points against the Panthers and last match she scored 16 points.

Norwood Flames v Southern Tigers, Sat, May 1st, 6.30pm at Mars
With both teams coming off a loss last round, the Flames losing to the Rockets at Hillcrest 77 – 63 and the Tigers falling to South Adelaide at Morphett Vale, one team will break the losing run tonight. Both teams struggled offensively last outing with only Amanda Macdermot and Rebecca Duke in double figures for Norwood and Robyn Jennings and Teresa Kinross in double figures for Southern. The rebound count for both clubs was quite different on the night, the Tigers credited with 62 rebounds and the Flames registered 37 on the stats sheet. Both teams will need to find more scoring options to grab the points.

Sturt Sabres v West Adelaide Bearcats, Sat, May 1st , 6.30pm at Pasadena
In what is predicted to be the match of the round, top placed Sturt, who are currently undefeated are pitched against the Bearcats whose only loss for the season was in the second round against Forestville at home. Sturt have had some narrow escapes this season. In the last game against Forestville they stumbled in by 1 point after breaking clear in the second quarter. The Bearcats appear to have a more experienced line-up with playing coach Sam Woosnam (17.5ppg & 8 rpg) expected to have a major influence on the outcome both on and off the court. West's Nikita-Lee Martin (19.0ppg) will take some stopping. The trump cards for the Sabres are expected to be Monique Bowley, Caroline Burgess and Bree Farley.
