Other than a tight escape against Eastern to start the season and a loss to 2009 premiers Forestville, the Bearcats have hardly put a foot wrong this season. Kerrin Webber's return to the team has been invaluable, and coupled with Lightning duo Sam Woosnam and Nikita-Lee Martin, West boast the most intimidating front court in the league.
Since the loss to Forestville, West dismantled Centrals and South, before producing a key victory against Norwood last week. It was not the prettiest of victories (a combined count of 43 turnovers indicative of the defensive pressure from both teams), but it was enough for West to reassert themselves as one of the more dominant teams in the league. Veteran guard Irene Sourlatzis had 14 points in the win, and the benefit of her return from interstate will become more evident as the season progresses.
Woodville have legitimately been competitive in all of their games, even though their record stands at just one win and 4 losses. 17 year old Katherine Perkas has made further progress on her impressive debut season, and leads the team in both points and rebounds. 2010 has also been Brooke Gathercole's most productive season to date, and with Woodville's defence keeping teams to around 60 points per game, her 10 point contribution is valuabe.
Against Sturt, the Warriors were held to just 14 points in the first half, and in the absence of Lynne Holland (interstate with the Under 18 state team), assistant coach Karen Winter will look for a better start than last week.
