Women's Previews - Round 4

North Adelaide Rockets v Central Districts Lions Sat, Mar 27, 6:30pm at Hillcrest
After a tough weekend which included losses to a resurgent Eastern and a calculating Forestville, Mike McKay’s Rockets host a Centrals team that went within a whisker of beating Woodville on Saturday. North will be buoyed by the return of Olympian Jo Hill who, after many years in Europe, made a return to the WNBL in 2009/10 with Townsville. The Rockets were outrebounded by a tiny Forestville team and Hill’s presence on the boards will help offset the loss of Jamie-Lee Peris. Centrals were no match for Grand Final favourites Norwood and West, but almost chased down a 14 point deficit against Woodville with 5 minutes remaining. The Lions have added Karin Roberts and Amy Stace to their lineup, but will struggle to contain Hill inside.

West Adelaide v South Adelaide Panthers Sat, Mar 27, 7:00pm at Port Adelaide
Last week, West were neck-and-neck with Forestville until Kerrin Webber went down with an ankle injury with 7:18 left in the third quarter, and with an immediate return unlikely, this will rob her of the chance to suit this week against her previous club. South’s win against Woodville was even tougher than the final 5 point margin indicated - the lead never extending beyond 10 and when Brooke Gathercole scored with 3 minutes to go, Woodville were up by 1. The Bearcats may take a few weeks to ramp up to full throttle, but as one of the league's favourites, would still be expected to be too strong for the shorter Panthers.

Woodville Warriors v Norwood Flames Sat, Mar 27, 6:30pm at St. Clair
Despite a solid start from centre Rachel Herrick, the Lady Flames only split their games on the weekend, perhaps unexpectedly dropping to Sturt on Sunday by 5. Once Herrick settles in, one would expect a double-double return each week and if Rebecca Duke stays for the whole season, Norwood will remain a force. Woodville also split their games, just holding on to defeat Centrals on Saturday before almost upsetting South on Sunday, with 17 year old Katherine Perkas already increasing her points, rebounds and assist production from 2009. The Warriors' ability to contain Duke and Herrick will determine the outcome of this game.

Southern Tigers v Forestville Eagles Sat, Mar 27, 6:30pm at Mars
Southern's position at the bottom of the ladder does not come close to telling the story of their season to date. The Tigers were within a whisker of sending game 1 against North into overtime, and were neck and neck with undefeated Sturt until a Bree Farley 3 with 3 minutes to go gave the Sabres some breathing room. Robyn Jennings has helped shoulder some of the rebounding load, and Stephanie Gates is set to build on her successful 2009 season. Forestville, the league's other undefeated team, possess an absurdity of guards, with 5'11" Mia Newley and 5'10" Tara Buttress the only resemblance of a front court. A starting trio of Jess Fergus, Jess Mahony and Kelsey Ireland gives Sharon Simons even more opportunity to play defence up the floor this year and Southern's ball carriers can expect to be under constant pressure all game.
