Competition Briefing
Sailing will hold a competition briefing for all team managers on Sunday 13 May from 12 noon at the Darwin Sailing Club. This meeting is important for all to attend.

The Sailing races will start on Monday 14 May depending on weather. Various races will be run throughout the week.

Every two years athletes from all over the Asia Pacific region come together in Darwin to compete in the Arafura Games. Representatives from over 30 countries match their skills against each other in friendly competition to win Gold, Silver and Bronze medals.
In 2007 sailing has been reintroduced as a major sport in the Games. The sailing will be jointly managed by the Northern Territory Government and Yachting Northern Territory and will be hosted by The Darwin Sailing Club.
The regatta will be a 12 race fleet racing series held over seven days. Classes to be sailed are Laser Standard, Laser Radial, Laser 7.4, Optimist and RS-X Sail Boards. Darwin is well known as a venue for major sailing events and the 2007 Arafura Games will be no exception.
As Australia's northern gateway, Darwin is also the perfect place to relax and enjoy surrounding natural beauty. Just a short drive away is the world famous Kakadu and Litchfield National Parks. For those with a bit more time on their hands the Katherine George and Gregory National parks are just a day's drive.
The classes to be sailed are:
Laser Standard The male Olympic single handed dinghy Class. The Arafura Games Laser Standard is an open event.
Laser Radial The female Olympic single handed dinghy class. Both a male and female Laser Radials competition will be run in the 2007 Games.
Laser 4.7 A popular class for younger sailors wishing to enter the Laser Class the most popular dinghy class in the world. The Laser 4.7 will be an open event at the 2007 Games.
Optimist Optimist is one of the largest dinghy classes in the world with 150,000 sailors in over 50 countries and is open to sailors under 16 years of age. Optimists are a Yachting Australia recognised youth training class. And have been used as the feeder for many Olympic sailors
RS-X Formula Board
The RS-X Formula Board has been chosen by the Olympic evaluation committee for the 2008 Olympics. The RS-X brings a change in windsurfing equipment and will revitalise windsurfing from Olympic level to club racer and recreational sailor. The inclusion of the boards in the 2007 Arafura Games will add a new exciting class to the regatta. Both a male and female race will be run in 2007.
Competitors will represent their respective countries or province and will be eligible to win Gold, Silver or Bronze medals in the Arafura Games to count towards their country's overall medal tally.
Event Location The Arafura Games sailing regatta will be conducted in Darwin from 12 to 19 May and will be sailed in the warm waters of Fannie Bay.
Frequently Asked Questions How much will transport cost? The Arafura Games Organisers will provide bus transfers for all teams on arrival and departure in Darwin. An official Games shuttle bus service will operate free of charge between accommodation houses and training and competition venues for all accredited participants.
What about accommodation for my team and officials? Through members of the Darwin Sailing Club every effort will be made to billet competitors and officials.
However, Darwin has a variety of accommodation to suit all budgets, tastes and special requirements. Almost all of Darwin's accommodation houses are located close to the Central Business District (CBD) and a short drive from sporting venues. Who is eligible to compete? Entry is open to everybody however entries must be endorsed by your national sporting body.
