About Pilbara Port Authority
On 1 July 2014, the Port Hedland Port Authority amalgamated with the Dampier Port Authority to form Pilbara Ports Authority. Pilbara Ports Authority stretches from the Port of Ashburton near Onslow in the south, to the Port of Port Hedland in the north, and includes the future Ports of Anketell and Cape Preston East.The merging of these ports to form Pilbara Ports Authority will incorporate the largest bulk export tonnage port in the world focused on the export of Australia’s rich mineral resources as well as world class oil and gas operations. Pilbara Ports Authority has responsibility for safe and efficient shipping within its waters and the overall planning and development responsibility for port lands. Our purpose is to facilitate and grow trade whilst protecting the environment and working with our communities for the benefit of all Australians.
NPFL – AFLS Tackling Violence out of the Pilbara Partnership Continues in 2020
The Aboriginal Family Law Services (WA) (AFLS) is pleased to announce that we are continuing the partnership with the North Pilbara Football League (NPFL) in taking a preventative approach to the issues of family violence and sexual abuse, currently taking a devastating toll on children and families in local communities across WA.
Sport is a critical channel for raising awareness of the importance of respectful relationships throughout codes, clubs, members and fans. Millions of men, women, boys and girls play sport at some point in their lives, and it is important that the prevention of men’s violence against women is incorporated into training, games, events and broadcasting to reach further into the community and highlight a zero tolerance approach.
“The football community in the Pilbara is very large,” said Stephanie. “Aussie Rules attracts a diverse audience, from all walks of life, even though men play the sport their families are very involved. Football is a great opportunity to get any anti-violence message to a broader range of people and what better then football.”
Family violence is an overwhelming problem with Aboriginal women 35 times more likely than non-Aboriginal to be hospitalised as a result, and 10 times more likely to be killed.
Estimates suggest 70-90% of Aboriginal children in out of home care are removed from their family due to family violence. In 2014, the number of Aboriginal children in out of home care in WA surpassed 50%, despite making up only 5% of the population aged 0-17 years.
“By creating this program it provides education to all levels of the community to take responsibility and say no to family violence,” said Ms Brahim. “I hope it will reduce the amount of family violence in our community. I also hope the North Pilbara football players, officials and supporters will take a lead role in helping to deliver the message against family violence in our region.”
The program will be delivered throughout the 2019 season with a strong anti-violence message “Violence is Not Our Game” displayed throughout the local Pilbara football clubs and the communities.
The AFLS provides culturally safe legal assistance to Aboriginal victim-survivors of family violence, in areas including violence restraining orders, criminal injuries compensation, child protection and family law. Services are delivered in regional WA in Broome, Geraldton, Kalgoorlie, Kununurra, Port Hedland and Carnarvon. From these centres, legal and non-legal staff provide outreach services to people in remote communities.

NPFL gains home side advantage with new Kleenheat partnership
North Pilbara Football League (NPFL) is pleased to announce a fresh partnership with Kleenheat for the 2019 season.
As a proud Western Australian born and bred company and member of the Wesfarmers Group, Kleenheat enjoys over 65 years’ experience meeting the LPG needs of households and businesses across WA and the Northern Territory.
In 2013, Kleenheat also introduced competition to the local natural gas market as the first provider to offer discounts on gas usage charges for those connected to WA’s natural gas network from Geraldton to Bunbury.
Backed by a commitment to support the communities where they operate, Kleenheat continues to back local organisations through partnerships spanning grassroots initiatives to state-wide programs, each focusing on making a positive impact in the community.
Kleenheat Partnerships Marketing Manager Teale Moyers said the new partnership with NPFL stems from the a commitment to getting behind the communities where they operate.
“As WA’s home team for LPG, Kleenheat is thrilled to partner the NPFL for what’s sure to be an exciting season ahead,” Moyers said.
“Local sport plays such an important role within the regional WA lifestyle, so as Kleenheat continues to meet the LPG needs of local homes and businesses we’re always keen to get behind the communities that support us.”
NPFL Sponsorship Manager Tony Butler said the agreement will benefit each club in the League, with Kleenheat on board to host a round during the 2019 season.
“The League is excited to have Kleenheat’s support for the upcoming season – a WA-based energy provider with a local community mindset,” Butler said.
“All NPFL players, members, affiliate clubs and spectators will benefit from this partnership, in addition to the wider community.”
The NPFL is currently working through its 2019 – 2024 Strategic Plan, which will further solidify the League’s long-term vision and objectives to ensure a high quality, well governed association with strong community partnerships.
