Sherbrooke Basketball are pleased to announce the introduction of a No Zone Defence policy in all of our junior competitions as of the frst week of the Summer 2017-18 season. This policy will be implemented across all age groups, excluding Rookies, from under 10s up-to and including our under 16s and brings SABA into line with the majority of junior competitions in Victoria including VJBL.

Sherbrooke Basketball Board of Management has decided upon this policy largely due to the feedback received from our recent survey with a two thirds majority asking for the elimination of zone defence. De-emphasising zone defence is the first of a number of initiatives Sherbrooke Basketball will implement thanks to your feedback. With your help we will continue striving to improve basketball in the hills.

More information about the technicalities of this rule change will be posted shortly and SABA are more than happy to assist those who would like some more information on non-zone defence. In the meantime we hope that all domestic coaches will follow the spirit of policy and referees will do their utmost to educate and enforce as appropriate.

With regards to the "mercy" rule, Sherbrooke Basketball's by-laws have been amended to the following:

“The 20 point rule applies up to and including U16s.  If one team is ahead by 20 points or more then that team must fall back behind the 3 point line at the opposing team’s goal end, except where the other team is in a fast break situation.  Penalty shall be a bench technical foul.  This rule does not apply to finals”
