The team was made up with former AFL Bundaberg Wide Bay Best and Fairest (2 times and runner up once) Grant Stauton , also 12 times Bomber Best and Fairest, and his brother Scott "Bundy" Stauton joined forces with current Bombers Reserve coach Geoffrey Scowns & myself (Ray Cole) for the Umpires. Plus a handful of Fruit Bat players, throw in 2 players from the Bushrangers Cricket Club, you had a team full of players whom hadn't seen a cricket ball for over 10 years with the exception to the Bushrangers, we were on a hiding to nothing.
Played over the past four Sundays the team of football misfits, one game at a time, were able to make it to the Grand Final to face the unbeaten almighty Hervey Bay Bushrangers.
Through some great bowling and sensational slegding, the team was able to bowl the Bushrangers all out for 85 their lowest total of the carnival.
With nothing to lose as we were going to use the excuse, were only footballers thanks to Geoffrey's hard hitting the team of AFL footballers were able to past the Bushrangers score with 3 overs to go and seven wickets in hand.
On presenting us with the trophy, it was noted that the word champions had a letter H missing so we became the "07/08 campions" which we sang over a few coldies whilst we rubbed it into the former 8 year straight premiers.
The only downside to the day, was the serious injury to Grant who was sent to hospital when his shoulder popped out, whilst throwing a ball in from the boundary.
