Hervey Bay TAFE- Facilitate a session for 25 students who are undertaking Level 1 Auskick coaching as apart of their Diploma. Some of the topis covered were The Role of the Official in Sport, What it takes to be a good official, the need for effective communication by sports officials. The students also played a game of AFL "touch" footy which the AFL boys umpired.
Achieving Goal Actively/Down Syndrome session at Bay Power AFC- Five families brought their DS kids along with their siblings where the AFL Umpires took them for some activities. This involved warm up/stretching, handball, kicking etc. The kids really enjoyed themselves as did their parents. This program is run by the AFL Foundation in partnership with Down Syndrome Australia and the AFL Umpires.
Umpires training at Bay Power AFC - AFL Umpires Mat Stevic and Adam Coote took local umpires through a short sharp session that concentrated on the need for acceleration. The session concluded with a game of AFL Handball Footy with was played at high intensity.
Umpies/Coaches Session at Kondai - Umpires/ coaches as well as League officials were present as AFL Umpire Mat Stevic presented the 2008 AFL Laws DVD. This session was well attended and demonstrated the need to have similar preseason presentations of the laws where umpires and coaches can meet and clarify law interpretations together. The session also highlighted the need for umpires/coaches/players to work within a "Spirit of Cooperation" so as all parties can enjoy the role they play in our game.
If you have any feedback, please pass it on...
