The AFL Bundaberg Juniors 2008 Season kicked off in style at the home of the Brothers Bullgogs Faircloth Oval last Friday.
Despite the pouring rain, it was great fun for all! Auskick numbers were disappointingly down, due to the colder wetter conditions, and organisers are hoping for finer weather next Friday the 4th April at 5pm. to get the littlies underway in their 13 week program.
However the home team Under 10's Bulldogs Red & Bulldogs Black kicked off at 6.30pm and took on the visitors ATWB Blue & ATWB Gold.
The 2 games were played simultaneously across the main field. Over 30 boys & girls, some in their first game of footy, enjoyed the slippery conditions and produced an entertaining couple of matches.
Then at around 7.30pm the Under 12's lifted the pace, with just the 1 match, displaying great marking and kicking under lights.
Field Umpire Bill Moorhead tripped avoiding contact with a speedy U/12, went down with an ankle injury, and may miss the start of the AFL Bundaberg Wide Bay NAB-SportFirst Premiership Season next week.
The Parents and supporters were well entertained and fed with the Bulldogs Bar & Canteen facilities, creating a real "down South" atmosphere under the conditions.
Next week, the games will be at the ATW Bundaberg AFC Frank Coulthard Oval complex. (see our previous Junior Fixture story)
