ANDERSON WINS STEDMAN, HUNJAS WINS COULTHARD AND OATES WINS JUNIORPLAYER OF THE YEAR
ATW Bundaberg AFC took first honours in the build up to the AFL BWB NAB SPORTFIRST Grand Final against Hervey Bay AFCC this Saturday with Captain Hayden Anderson topping of an outstanding year by winning the 2008 Stedman Medal on 21 votes from Hervey Bay’s Greg Lavey who was runner up on 18 votes. ATW Bundaberg AFC will also be boosted by midfielder Michael Liverton winning the competitions goal kicking award with 41 for the home and away season.
The tables were turned however in the Reserves with the Frank Coulthard Medal going to
Hervey Bay’s Daniel Hunjas while the equal runner up awards went to Russel Vandenberg and Tim Annett from ATW and the goal kicking award went to
Hervey Bay’s Shane
Hill.
Both clubs will be boosted by the results as they will take each other on once again in the Senior and Reserve Grade Grand Final at Frank Coulthard Oval in Bundaberg on Saturday.
The other major award winner on the night was Brothers Bulldogs 191cm U/14 Captain Jock Oates who received the prestigious award of AFL BWB Junior Player of the Year. Oates will Captain his U/14 Bulldogs team into the U/14 Grand Final against ATW Bundaberg on Saturday morning looking to put the icing on a stellar season. Oates Captained the U/14
AFL BWB Team and picked up his coaches award at the AFL QLD Country Championships and repeated the same feat at the State Championships for the Country Queensland Kookaburras. Oates could have been considered very unfortunate to be named as a shadow player for the QLD U/15 schoolboys team for the National Championships.
If all that was not enough Oates was rendered speechless in front of over 100 people at the Across the Waves Sports
Club function room when Regional Manager Anthony McDonald announced that Oates had been awarded a Michael Voss Scholarship by AFL QLD.
