Finlay Blacklock has played an important role for Australian Football in the Mackay region since 2009 and in April this year was rewarded for his hard work, when he was appointed as the Development Co-ordinator in Mt Isa for AFL Queensland.
Finlay was only the Mt Isa region for a short time but made his mark in the isolated central Queensland town.
At a ceremony in Brisbane, Finlay was awarded the AFL Queensland - Leadership and Community Service Award.
The award recognises Finlay's contribution to Australian Football and in particular within Multicultural program's for AFL Queensland. During his short tenure in Mt Isa Finlay achieved so much and went above and beyond what was asked of him.
Finlay was able to build social networks with remote centres such as Dajarra, Camooweal and Lake Nash, which encouraged the community with Australian Football. Blacklock was able to push personal boundaries and enhance his own self-awareness and met with Mt Isa School of Air, which is a school of distance education that has students in remote locations of Queensland, Northern Territory and South Australia.
He was setting up phone classes with students, that focused on leadership and community service with an Australian Football theme.
Overall Finlay was able to create a sense of community spirit and a healthy, active lifestyle through sport and in particular are great game.
The key criteria for the award is:
1. Formally acknowledge ambassadors extra contributions to the community
2. Provide avenues for Ambassadors to build social networks.
3. Encourage the development of key skills and ambassador attributes to the community.
4. Push boundaries and enhance self-awareness
5. Foster a sense of community spirit and healthy, active lifestyle
