AFL Mackay have confirmed that footy will return on Saturday 12th March, with Round 1 of the Allied Pickford’s Cup season and the first bounce of the new year only 60 days away.
A few changes have been made ahead of the new season, with AFL Mackay confirming these after the January general meeting.
Junior competitions have been restructured to Under 8’s, Under 10’s, Under 12’s, Under 14’s and Under 17’s, along with the already established premier Women’s and Division 2 men’s competitions. Season 2016 will also feature more Friday night and Sunday football, with the traditional Saturday time-slots continuing.
AFL Queensland Regional Manager Jeff Neumann in Mackay said it is an exciting year ahead not only for Australian Football lovers but the wider community.
“The AFL Mackay men’s, women’s and junior competitions are expanding, with more time-slots to include Friday, Saturday and Sunday football, it is exciting times ahead,” Regional Manager Jeff Neumann said.
“AFL Mackay will expand across our junior competitions with 6-8 new teams across the competition, add to this the on-going support of Isuzu UTE Mackay, junior football is on the rise across the region.
“Junior teams will come out of the Central Highlands for the first time, Youth Girls football will be added to the schedule, women’s competition expansion and our top age boys competition (Under 17’s) is expanding,” Neumann added.
“Season 2016 is a historic year, from the NAB Challenge match between the Brisbane Lions and St Kilda Saints and support from local businesses like Isuzu UTE Mackay, Allied Pickford’s and John Donnelly the Good Guys, we are continuing our push as a community leader both on and off the field,” AFL Queensland’s Jeff Neumann said of the year ahead.
