The Magpies Mackay AFC have end an 18-month win-less run with an emphatic victory over the reigning premiers Moranbah Bulldogs on Saturday.
It was a fairly scrappy affair in windy conditions at Magpies Sports Park but it was the men in black and white who proved the better side on the day running out 41-point victors with veteran Heath Theile and forward Brendan Edwards impressive in the Magpies first win since season 2013.
Last time the two sides met, the Bulldogs ran riot in the third quarter however this time it was the home team, as the Magpies booted 6 goals in the premiership quarter.
Magpies Captain Jaebyn Drefke spoke to the Daily Mercury following the game and this is what he had to say about the clubs round 2 Allied Pickford's Cup victory.
"It was good for the guys," he said. "We've got a lot of guys who played with it all last year who haven't had a win with the club.
"It has been a long time coming and it was definitely a relief to finally get one on the board, hopefully it gets the guys a bit more committed and we really start to build a season out of it."
Drefke said realistically it was one win out of a long season but the team had to start somewhere.
"Hopefully we can start to turn the luck around now," he said.
"Everyone who stepped on the field stepped up," Drefke said.
"We didn't really have any specific superstars, everyone played their role like they had to... and it just fell our way."
