The Mackay City Hawks firmed their favouritism for a Grand Final berth following a dominant performance over the North Mackay Saints during Round 14 of the Manpower AFL Mackay premiership season.
The Hawks used the blustery conditions at Harrup Park to kick away to a five goal lead in the first quarter, off some powerful play by Adam Philp and Chris Butcher. John Chenhall’s accurate kicking into the wind in the second half, kicking three of his five goals for the match, assisted the Hawks to skip away from the Saints who bravely put on five goals of their owns in the quarter, four of which from James Stewart.
The Hawks continued their dominant form in the second half, piling on a further sixteen goals to dispatch North Mackay by 130 points.

The Eastern Swans revived their premiership prospects with a return to their earlier dominant season form with a convincing display against the Moranbah Bulldogs.
Moranbah’s Darren Semmler posted his side’s sole major score in the first quarter, however it was a long afternoon therein for the Bulldogs, who faced an onslaught from the revived Swans.
Ryan Usher top-scored for the Swans, with some dashing runs into the forward line and solid hands to kick three for the first quarter. Goal kicking honors were then shared around the playing group through good delivery from the centre corridor by Dean Hartley and Heath Brown to set the Swans toward a much needed and well fought 99 point victory.

The Whitsunday Sea-Eagles confirmed their stranglehold on the 2009 AFL Mackay season, securing the Minor Premiership with a solid 156 point win over the Bakers Creek Tigers.
The Sea-Eagles came out of the box firing, maintaining pressure on the Bakers Creek defenses for most of the first quarter to kick six unanswered goals. Paul Branchflower was at his sublime best, controlling play through the middle of the ground with a rejuvenated Peter Bond.
Bakers Creek fought back hard in the second quarter. Mathew Gartner worked tirelessly in defense to restrict the Sea-Eagles to just two goals, whilst Bakers Creek kicked two of their own.
Some physical work by John Macdonald and Byron Picket halted the easy flow of possession to the Whitsunday attack, with Picket showing several moments of brilliance, pushing through the Whitsunday defenses like nine-pins to set up Xavier Smith with a clean set of hands and a booming kick.
Peter Cipri seemed to have the ball on a string for Whitsunday, as he and Dylan Lambert set about dismantling the Tigers attack in the second half, to drive the ball forward toward Matt Galonski, who bagged nine goals for the match, with Brett Hobbs and Daniel Ford also kicking 5 and 4 goals respectively.
