Junior AFL players this weekend will enjoy receiving some positive feedback and encouragement themselves from parents and spectators at junior games.
It is all part of AFL Queenslandâs âPositive or itâs Pointlessâ program, which is designed to increase the positive behaviour of parents and spectators at junior football.
The program has enjoyed outstanding success since originating with the AFL Brisbane Juniors two years ago, and is now an annual state-wide initiative.
Richard Griffiths, Chief Executive Officer of AFL Queensland, believes the âPositive or Pointlessâ campaign is crucial in ensuring young kids enjoy sport.
âJunior sport is meant to be fun and one important way of making sure kids enjoy their footy is for adults to be as positive and encouraging as possible,â Mr. Griffiths said.
âWeâd like to think this happens all the time, and encourage appropriate adult behaviour all year round, but this weekend in particular we draw special attention to this very important issue.
âWe hope the kids get a kick out of some really positive encouragement from the adult spectators.â
Queensland has more than 15,000 boys and girls playing AFL and is keen to continue to encourage positive behavior on and off the field.
With the support of the Queensland Government, âPositive or itâs Pointlessâ is also uniting all four junior football codes in Brisbane this year.
The Brisbane Lions have given a helping hand with vice-captain and triple premiership player Luke Power assisting in the promotion of the program.
âChildren are the future of our game. Encourage them to do their best, but let them enjoy it too,â Power said.
