Background - We continue to honour the great Sir Doug Nicholls, whom our round is named after. Sir Doug played a significant role in in pioneering Australia’s journey to reconciliation. He is an icon of Australian football and represented all the exceptional values of the game and epitomised the true spirit of justice, equality and reconciliation.

“Celebrating Michael Long’s significant contribution to the game of Australian Rules Football and the community In Honour of Sir Doug Nicholls Round, 2019”
Background - In December 2018, a Memorandum of Understanding was executed between the AFL and the Nicholls family. A highlight of the MOU is the agreement that each year, the Sir Doug Nicholls round will honour and celebrate a former or current Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander player who has made a significant contribution to the game and community. In 2018, the inaugural player celebrated under the Sir Doug banner was Graham ‘Polly’ Farmer with Michael Long in 2019.
