Bakers Creek Football Club will field an Under-17 team in the 2017 AFL Mackay competition and has appointed an experienced junior coach to lead the squad.
"It has been some years since Bakers Creek has had juniors," club president Ben Faulkner said.
"With a lot of hard work over the past few years, especially in partnership with the Sarina Demons and Pioneer Power, we believe we are in a positive position to expand the club.
"We are also excited to announce Ian Bulmer as the Under 17s coach," he said.
Bulmer, who has coached at the Eastern Swans for the past eight years, said, in his time, he could not remember Bakers Creek having a junior team.
"It's actually sensational, it's really exciting times for the whole club," he said.
Bulmer has coached U13s and U15s to win premierships and most recently coached the Eastern Swans U17s to a flag in 2015. For the past four years he has also coached the U14 representative Mackay Crows team.
This season the Swans struggled to field an U17 team, so Bakers approached Bulmer.
"They said they had a team but they didn't have a coach and asked if I would coach," Bulmer said.
Bulmer and his son Lachie, will lead the new group this season.
Bulmer said training had started well.
"The most important thing is the players are improving their skill level and sticking to our game plan," he said.
