Mackay City Hawks plan to field a women's team this season for the first time in history.
Leading the pack will be former Moranbah Bulldogs captain Jennifer Revell.
Revell is involved with the Gold Coast Suns Academy in Mackay and was assistant coach of the undefeated U17s Mackay Crows representative side.
She hopes her involvement with these two teams will help with recruitment for the new side.
"I've talked to a lot of those (U17) girls who weren't at a club,” Revell said.
"We want a relatively young team plus some experience.
"A lot of players have already approached me so that gives me a little bit of confidence that people want to see it go ahead.”
McElligotts and Mackay Conveyor Equipment have already jumped on board to specifically sponsor the new team.
"To have not only the Hawks supporting us but businesses as well is incredible,” Revell said.
She has been part of AFL Mackay's women's league since it started three seasons ago.
The Hawks tried to get a women's team up and running last year but it fell through. "I felt like I could try to help them have another go,” Revell said.
"I just want to do something a little bit different... instead of just going out there and having a game I really want to educate these girls, get them excited and passionate.
"Especially with the women's league it's the perfect time.”
