The Tropical Exposure Mackay Crows, women’s representative side will head to Townsville this weekend to take on the best of North Queensland in a rapid fire round robin carnival.
Mackay will go head to head with women’s football powerhouse Cairns along with hosts Townsville and 3rd Brigade from the Australian Defence Force. The Tropical Exposure Mackay Crows are taking an impressive team of twenty-three to Townsville, head-lined by Gold Coast SUNS exhibition player, Alana McNabb (Eastern Swans) and AFL Mackay Women’s joint best and fairest winners, Jess Taylor (Moranbah) and Ashley Moloney (Mackay Magpies).
From club best and fairest winners, club captains and up and coming stars, the Crows will be a force in Townsville.
Moranbah Bulldogs player and one of the regions junior representative coaches, Jennifer Revell will be one to watch with the classy defender to play a key role for the Crows.
“It is exciting to see the competition and in particular female football growing across North Queensland, and to play in a carnival like this is fantastic” defender Jennifer Revell said.
“I’m looking to playing against Townsville and the 3rd Brigade, however Cairns is probably the benchmark for the carnival as they’ve been established league for a lot longer and have had a number of women play in higher representative football this year.
“I’m just glad to have been selected in the Tropical Exposure Mackay Crows side and excited to get the chance to play amongst some players which I have admired playing against. I’m really confident that we’ve got the ability to go up to Townsville and cause an upset,” Moranbah Bulldogs Jennifer Revell said.
Coach Jeff Neumann said it is a great opportunity for the women’s players of the region to test themselves against the rest of the north.
“This carnival gives every player the opportunity to benchmark themselves against some of the States best players and a great opportunity to play different roles, that they wouldn’t normally play at their local club,” Jeff Neumann said.
“It is a credit to a lot of volunteers at all of our clubs across the region, of the standard and quality of players coming through are very impressive.
“It is a very exciting times ahead not just female football, but Australian Football in general and this is another chapter in our story,” Neumann added.
