Last weekend I had the pleasure to see both the Moranbah Bulldogs and Mackay Ladies sides return to the fields of AFL Mackay.
The Bulldogs have returned to join forces with the Bakers Creek reserves and we hope this will inturn help both clubs.
The Ladies had been training for four short weeks and it was a pleasure to coach them as they were keen to learn everything they could in such a short time.
It showed when we played against a side that has played four or five games together and been trainig for twelve months and just some little things like tackling a shepherding were foreign to our girls and they copped some fairly heavy treatment from the Townsville Mack trucks.
To every girls credit they stuck to their task and in the end were getting a bit back with some solid tackling led by Bianca, the Tamaras, Nick, Rachel and even the smaller girls Jody and Emily.
We will make every endeavour to continue on with the ladies and training will start again on Wednesday night and we will hopefully get enough to have our own matches, maybe on a Sunday with a family type day, BBQ and all the trimmings in the near future.
If you or any of your friends would like to become involved in ladies football, get along to North Mackay this Wednesday night from 6.00pm or call Leanne on 0439 670 498.
On the local AFL Manpower premiership season, round 6 went along the same lines as round 1. Both Mackay City and the Eastern Swans continued on with their early season form with good wins.
With the change in the draw due to North Mackay playing in the community challange at the GABBA on May 21, this weekend's round 7 will see the Swans face up to the side that just three weeks ago gave them a real football lesson up at Airlie Beach and the Tigers will host North Mackay in a match that will make or break the Tigers season.
Also the AFL Mackay representative train on side will be chosen tonight and each club will be notified over the weeekend of its players required to attend training starting this Wednesday.
Training times and the venue details will also be given to clubs to pass onto players.
Each player is expected to make themselves available or face a two week suspension.
This weeks tips and Coadys crazy call is if the Swans can reverse the result from three weeks ago against Whitsunday i will row Swans coach Namma McCormack across the pioneer river in a bathtub. "There yo go Namma"
