Harrison Arnold and Joshua Gardner, have been selected to represent North Queensland at the upcoming State Championships in Brisbane in late April. Harrison was a stand out at the Under 16 North Queensland Championships in Airlie Beach playing through the midfield, with Joshua’s defensive acts impressing selectors.
Both Arnold and Gardner are members of the Gold Coast SUNS Academy, with Arnold also receiving honours of Mackay Crows Captain, and received the 2016 Mackay Crows Coaches Award and Most Professional player award.
Bakers Creek product Joshua Gardner, was named Vice-Captain and at just 16 is playing his second season of men’s division 1 football.
AFL Queensland Regional Manager in Mackay, Jeff Neumann said it was fantastic for both players to be selected in the North Queensland side.
“Both players started their championship campaign preparations in November last year, through our summer development program and have been working hard to be in the best shape both on and off the field for several months,” Regional Manager Jeff Neumann said.
Neumann also added,” Even though results did not go our way, these championships are all about development for the players and learning what it takes to go to the next level with preparation.”
Mackay were unable to record a win at the North Queensland Academy Championships, as the Cape York Crusaders took out the 2016 Championship title.
