After losing the grand final last year, reappointed Mackay City Hawks coach Matt Crowley has the plan to go one better next season - fitness.
The team's pre-season training is well under way and Crowley is confident in his team's chances as the new season approaches.
"We have started training before the Christmas break and the boys have been pushing hard already," he said.
The boys have had time to have a break in between training commitments over the holidays giving them the chance to recover.
Crowley is adamant that there are some younger players showing talent and they will get the opportunity to jump up to play A-grade games.
"I have told the boys they need to put an effort in early so the season is easier as the grand final approaches," Crowley said.
The team are coming off of a grand final loss to the Swans where fitness was cost them the flag.
"The boys now have had a successful pre-season and they have the fitness we are ready to win a grand final," he said.
