For Northview State School NAB AFL Auskick participants and sisters, Shannah and Allie Grant, 2015 will be a year to remember.
Both are Essendon Bombers supporters and booked a family holiday to the Gold Coast to watch their beloved Bombers take on the SUNS at Metricon Stadium in Round 21. However, this wasn't any ordinary family holiday, as the relaxing trip quickly turned into one filled with excitement with a dash of butterflies.
As Shannah and Allie both participated at their school NAB AFL Auskick centre on Monday afternoons here in Mackay, AFL Queensland State Auskick Manager Emily Wastle invited the Grant sisters to play at half-time during the NAB AFL Auskick grid-games as they were on the Gold Coast already.
However, the excitement didn't stop there.
Both girls were able to meet their favourite players Jobe Watson and Dyson Heppell. Shannah's favourite player is Jobe Watson and Allie loves Dyson Heppell.
"My favourite player is Jobe Watson because he is the leader and a really good player,"older sister Shannah told Mackay.AFLQ.com.au
And Allie doesn't just like Dyson Heppell because of his on field attributes.
"My favourite player is Dyson Heppell, he has funky hair and he is like the flash because he runs very quick," 5 year old Allie said.
Both girls were asked what it was like playing on the hallow turf of Metricon Stadium.
"It was very exciting but I was also very nervous because it was a really big stadium and I was playing front of a lot of people," Shannah said.
"It was good, the best part was when we got to run down the tunnel where the Bombers come out," Allie added.
Mackay.AFLQ.com.au also spoke to the sisters mum, Nicole.
"This was our first time with the Northview State School clinic and it has been great," Nicole said.
"There seems to be a lot of children interested and the after school time slot has made it really convenient."
"Shannah has participated in Auskick for a couple of years now and loves learning the different skills.
"We are originally from Victoria, so we really enjoy our AFL (and) both girls jumped at the opportunity to sign up when they became old enough," Nicole added.
NAB AFL Auskick is run across the Mackay region all year round and is for boys and girls enrolled in Primary school. To find your nearest centre head to www.aflauskick.com.au and use the centre locator.
