Mackay Magpies co-captain Adriana Smith has been crowned the number one female footballer in the region after claiming the Premier Women's Fairest and Best Medal over fellow co-captain and 2014 joint winner Lisa Millard and Eastern Swans star Alana McNabb.
Smith claimed the award, receiving 20 votes from the Umpires for the season, with runners up Millard and McNabb 5 votes behind on 15.
Votes are given at the conclusion of each match by the officiating Umpires for that particular match, using a 3-2-1 voting system. The best on ground player receives the 3 votes, then the 2 and 1 awarded, the votes are sealed and return to AFL Mackay and kept locked away until the seasons end.
It has been an incredible rise for winner Smith, which this year has included All Stars and Mackay representation. Playing 12 home and away games and booting 8 goals and dominating with her impressive and penetrating left foot.
Smith will line up beside Millard in this Saturday's second AFL Mackay Women's Grand-Final as the Magpies take on the North Mackay Saints for the holy grail.
The Mackay Magpies also boast the Premier Women's leading goal scorer with Tina Hancock taking out the award, kicking 34-goals for the season that included a personal and competition individual record of 10-majors in one game against Bakers Creek in Round 13.
