A visibly emotional Desmond Hayes captained the Mackay City Hawks to a 172-point win against the Moranbah Bulldogs.
For the first time, the Hawks wore an indigenous jersey in the game.
Hayes, who has Aboriginal heritage, said it had been an honour to lead the boys out.
"It was a bit of a surprise for me but the coach landed it on me at the last minute... hopefully I did the boys proud," he said.
Hayes had a good game, dominating in the midfield with some silky skills.
"It's good to see the community getting around the game too," he said.
"It's the first game of it, so hopefully there's more to come."
Hawks coach Matt Crowley said it was one of the team's best wins of the year.
"We were consistent, scoring seven goals each quarter," Crowley said.
Although the Bulldogs were handed a thrashing, they were tough all day, doing many of the little things right.
They were simply outclassed by a better team.
In the other games Magpies were spanked by the still undefeated Eastern Swans.
In a bit of an upset, the North Mackay Saints dropped an important away game against the Whitsunday Sea Eagles.
The result means the Saints and Moranbah are equal on points and both fighting for the last finals spot in the top four, heading into this week's final round.
It is hard to see Moranbah making the jump though, because it plays the competition's benchmark, the Swans, away.
