Swans and Magpies strengthen as Premiership Favourites
The Eastern Swans and Mackay Magpies strengthened their positions as flag favourites for their respective competitions. The Eastern Swans were impressive in their big win over the North Mackay Saints in the Allied Pickford’s Cup encounter at Zeolla Park.
The pre-season champions and last years preliminary finalists, made it 14 straight victories this season with their 24.17 (161) to 3.2 (20) victory over cross-town rivals the North Mackay Saints. New recruit Dean Backwell again dominated as the Swans midfielder continues his purple patch and is no doubt in line for a top finish in the MJ Miller Medal.
Moranbah went level on points with the fourth placed North Mackay Saints after their big win over Bakers Creek at Stevenson Park. The Bulldogs recorded their 6th win of the season when they defeated the Tigers 24.8 (168) to 1.1 (7) victory.
The Bulldogs finals flame is still flickering but with match ups against the Eastern Swans and Mackay City Hawks in the final two rounds, it seems as the top 4 is confirmed.

In the Premier Women’s competition North Mackay were back on the winners list with their 6.9 (45) to 0.0 (0) win over the Eastern Swans. The Swans were missing captain Alana McNabb and Rebecca Grummitt. However, the defensive effort of the Saints is most notable keeping the Swans score-less and is great preparation ahead of the qualifying final against the Mackay Magpies in the 1st week of finals.
Out in Moranbah it was a tough battle between the Bulldogs and Bakers Creek Tigresses, in a game that decides the top 4. It was the home team that was victorious and will play finals in 2015 after their 3.8 (26) to 3.1 (19) win over the new-comers Bakers Creek.
The Magpies have wrapped up the minor premiership and seem to be the un-backable flag favourites with North Mackay looked to have now locked in second place and the Bulldogs and Swans battling it out for positions third and fourth.
