He mightn't be a spring chicken but Tim Bone showed he still has plenty of class, leading the City Hawks to a 30-point win over Saints.
The 32-year-old, who is the Hawks' assistant coach, kicked five goals but said the hard work was done elsewhere by his side.
"Daniel Pollock in the ruck went well all day," Bone said.
"Dessie (Desmond Hayes) never has a bad game and Lee (Fazackerley) is a quiet achiever and did everything right on the wing. Dylan Harper did a good job in our backline."
The hard-fought encounter at Harrup Park on Saturday was played in perfect conditions for football and the Hawks got the early jump and held off the gallant Saints for the remainder of the match.
"It was a good, tight contest and very well umpired, I thought," Bone said.
The Hawks are second on the Allied Pickfords Cup ladder and although they have lost twice to Eastern Swans, Bone backed his side against the front-runners.
"We think if we can get our best team on the same day we can be very competitive," he said.
The Hawks won three consecutive premierships before losing last year's grand final but, with player movement, have had a small rebuild in 2015.
"We were up there for three or four years and very successful and we've had to adjust a bit," Bone said. "It's why we play footy - for a challenge - and it's been good being up against it a bit."
In Glenella, a defiant Bakers Creek tested Magpies but the black-and-whites were classy enough to get the win.
Magpies' coach Paul Gurry said the team relished the tough match ahead of the bye.
Ruckman Tyson Craig continued his improvement and Heath Thiele dominated in the midfield for Magpies.
Whitsunday forfeited to Eastern Swans, who take on Saints this weekend in a first-verse-third clash. Moranbah hosts Bakers Creek in the other round 17 match.
