Meanwhile at Rogers Oval and Stevenson Park it was raining goals for the winning sides.
Thrilling Magpies
The Magpies have recorded back to back wins and for consecutive matches come from behind to snatch victory. It was a low scoring affair at Magpies Sports Club, with only 14-goals kicked for the entire match.
North Mackay started the better of the two sides kicking 4 majors to 2 in the opening stanza, with numerous skill errors costing the men in black and white. It was much the same in the second quarter as the Saints stretched their 11-point quarter time lead out to 17 points at the long break.
However, it was a different Magpies outfit in the third quarter coming out scoring three majors and keeping the match favourite Saints goal-less in a fantastic defensive showing by the Magpies led by Jackson Webb.
The major difference in the Magpies is they started to run and hit targets and turned the 17 point deficit into a 1 point lead at the final change.
It was a tight, physical contest in the final term with both sides struggling to penetrate their forward fifty's.
However, enter midfielder Jeff Neumann who was able to sneak forward and earn a free-kick, forty out on a slight angle, was able to kick truly and extend the Magpies lead to 7 points with 5 minutes to go. The matches intensity lifted a gear as the Saints went into urgent mode.
North Mackay veteran David Edwards stepped up as the key offensive Saint this season and snapped around his body to reduce the margin to 1-point to give the Saints some glimmer of hope.
Though the Magpies were able to hang and were led by Jackson Webb in defence along with Josh Lawler, Jaebyn Drefke and Kevin McCallum key contributors for the Magpies 1-point win at home. Star on-baller Heath Thiele was also fantastic, winning numerous clearances.
For the Saints Chayse Tilley and Brenton Lauder were fantastic as was Matthew Reghenzani and Brendan Cowcher.
Unfortunately for the Saints, it was the Magpies day and the Mackay Magpies now go on equal points in third percentage but it is North Mackay who hang onto third position with a superior percentage, 18% greater than that of the Magpies.
