Last weekend Shannon Willett donned the black and pink in the Mackay women's and was one of the Vipers best. This week the star representative forward will line up for her club Bakers Creek and will be a key if Bakers Creek are to defeat the North Mackay Saints.
The Tigresses have struggled inside their forward fifty this year and mainly due to their lack of a key marking forward but Willett's development as a key position forward may just be what the Bakers Creek women's side is looking for.
Not only is Willett good above her head in a contested situation, she proved at the next level she is just as dangerous when the football hits the ground.
Willett finished as the representative teams leading goal-kicker and can play either deep in attack or across half-back. Add to that young star Leah Deveraux was also a standout in the Mackay side and the silky left-footer is damaging across either half forward or back.
However, North Mackay have their own stars in Allyce Marchetti, Fiona Forrest, Rahnee Vaccaneo and co, these players have been the driving force behind their sides 3 - 2 start to the season and the reason the Saints are the side most likely to knock off the Magpies.
It will be a tough task for the Tigresses with the Saints oozing class all over the paddock.
This will be the first time these two sides have met in the home and away season, their last meeting was the pre-season challenge in Airlie Beach in the semi-final where the Saints marched to a hard-fought 12-point victory.
Whichever side can play four quarters of hard running football will win this important encounter. Victory to the Tigresses at home, means they stay in touch with second and third place but if the Saints win they will gather some breathing room in second place on the ladder.
