AFL Mackay are pleased to announce our 2015 Women's Representative Coach for the upcoming inter-league matches against Capricornia and Townsville on Saturday 6th June.
Highly decorated coach Jeff Neumann has been appointed to lead the Mackay Women's representative side across the two match series. AFL Mackay Women's Director Vanessa Creeley said that not only will the Mackay team benefit but female football across the region are already seeing the benefits of Neumann's appointment.
"We are very excited with Jeff's appointment as coach of the Women's representative side this year, all aspects of female footy are going to benefit greatly from having some of Jeff's calibre in our region," Creeley said.
"It is fantastic to have a male in a male dominant sport be passionate and excited about the future of Women’s Australian Football,” Creeley added.
"He has had the experience with the Western Bulldogs and numerous years with both the Queensland Under 18 and Women's sides, with Jeff involved we are in very good hands."
However, Neumann's focus hasn't been on winning but mentoring future coaches and teaching players in the newly formed Women's Academy for the region the fundamentals to take back and engage and assist in developing the second year AFL Mackay Premier Women's competition.
"Since training has started every single person’s skill level has improved dramatically and this is credit to Jeff and his coaching ability," AFL Mackay Women's Director Vanessa Creeley said.
"The great thing is these girls take the skills and knowledge learnt back to club land so we see an overall improvement in the whole aspect of the game, for this we are very thankful,” Creeley added.
Mackay.AFLQ.com.au spoke to Jeff Neumann on his appointment and he was excited by the challenges ahead and some of his coaching career highlights.
"I was more than happy to assist when asked and I am looking forward to the matches ahead," Neumann said.
"The Women's competition is still only in the development stages and the focus has been on the fundamentals and increasing each players knowledge of the game.
"I've been very lucky to be involved at the elite level along with our State's program's from numerous years, my main focus is to implement what I have learnt at these levels back to community club and regional talent level to assist in strengthening Female Football in the region," Coach Neumann added.
Discussing his highlights Neumann said quite a few rank highly but nothing comes close to the Western Bulldogs experience.
"I have been quite fortunate that I have been involved with three club premierships and two talent championships wins but my experience with the Western Bulldogs is like nothing else," Neumann said on his coaching career highlights.
"I do have aspirations to get back to that level but for now I am focused on developing not only female football but all football within the Mackay region."
"I'll do whatever I can do to assist in growing, developing and strengthing Australian Football in the Mackay Region," Neumann added.
Mackay will face Capricornia up first at 2:00pm and then Townsville at 6:00pm at Harrup Park Country Club in two modified 2 x 20 minute half matches.
