Women's Australian football is expanding and Mackay City Hawks are keen to be involved in the Mackay competition.
Eastern Swans, North Mackay Saints, Bakers Creek Tigresses, Mackay Magpies and Moranbah Bulldogs play in the AFL Mackay Premier Women's League while Hawks and Whitsunday have no women's side.
Mackay City Hawks Juniors vice president Trevor Rowler said he wanted this changed.
"The junior and the senior clubs have really been trying to push it," he said.
"We've created a Facebook page to try to centralise everything."
Rowler said women's Aussie rules was growing quickly in Mackay and Australia and he was aiming to have a Hawks' women's side in next year's AFL Mackay Premier Women's competition.
"We'll see how we go throughout this year with numbers," he said.
"If we get the numbers together I guess the next step is getting in touch with AFL Mackay to register the team."
Rowler said an extra team meant the sport would continue to grow in the region.
"It's always tough in a region when rugby league and soccer reign supreme, still we need to keep growing the sport," he said.
"There's been a lot of movement as well with the representative stuff, like the Gold Coast Suns' Academy, so things are moving in the right direction."
Interested players and volunteers should visit the Mackay City Hawks Women's Group Facebook page.
