The Eastern Swans have remained undefeated after their clash with the Mackay City Hawks in the Allied Pickford’s Cup match of the round.
In his 250th match Terry Bailey was one of the Swans best along with Aaron Picken and Mark Svaikauskas. It was a tight tussle all day, that saw the Eastern Swans break away in the final term to record the 13.10 (88) to 8.4 (52) victory over the Hawks.
For Mackay City, Desmond Hayes booted four majors in a best on ground performance for the brown and gold.
Swans victory sees them go one game clear on top of the Allied Pickford’s Ladder.
Meanwhile in Airlie Beach at Whitsunday Sports Park, the Sea Eagles soared to victory over the Bakers Creek Tigers by 76 points.
Teenager and Gold Coast SUNS Academy player Eli Gunders booted 4-majors and led the way inside the forward fifty, with James Bourke and Robert Reents were also key contributors for Whitsunday. The Sea Eagles were relentless after half-time keeping the Tigers to just the 4-points post the long break.
However, Bakers Creek were their own worst enemy booting 10 behinds for the match. Whitsunday ran out 15.8 (98) to 2.10 (22) victors.
The final game of the round saw the North Mackay Saints march to victory over the Moranbah Bulldogs at Zeolla Park.
The opening stanzas was a tight encounter with the Bulldogs having 1-more scoring shot but were down by 4-points. In the second term, North Mackay piled on 5 unanswered goals to take a very handy 35-point into the long change.
From here the Bulldogs were playing catch up, as both sides booted 4-majors each in the second half but the damage was already done the Saints recorded a 11.10 (76) to 5.9 (39) victory.
