SYDNEY Swans legend Adam Goodes showed glimpses of brilliance in his team's 68-point win over the Gold Coast Suns in Mackay.
Goodes kicked a nice goal in the third quarter and could push for senior selection this weekend after the Anzac Day clash at Harrup Park.
"It was a good team effort, we had to really improve, the Giants played extremely well against us last week," he said.
"We knew it was going to be tough up here with the heat and playing at midday but to our boys' credit all the things we really wanted to work on we really hit and really committed to.
"It was a credit to our young boys; they really lifted in the areas that we spoke about pre-game, we were really happy to get away with the win and really guts it out."
Goodes said he was able to run out the game better than last week. "I just wanted to work on my spread from stoppages and it will be good to check the GPS data during the week and see where I'm at," he said.
Goodes said the seniors were playing well and it would be hard to break into a winning team.
"We've got a plan, I've always had a plan when I said to Horse (Swans coach John Longmire) about not playing as the sub, it's a plan we'll stick to it and it won't change next week," he said.
Suns coach Josh Fraser was visibly disappointed with the poor loss.
"It was tough we got a lesson in work rate and contested footy so it was really disappointing from our end," he said.
Making things worse for Gold Coast, regular AFL player Sam Day was taken off the field on a stretcher in the third quarter with what looked to be a serious arm or shoulder injury. Fraser said he was not sure of the extent of Day's injury and he had been taken for scans.
There were some avid AFL fans in the crowd, including Nicki Steel who travelled from Airlie Beach to see the game."It was a life goal to see Adam, I'm rapt and I've got a selfie to prove it," she said.
