For the first time in the regions history, female footballers from five the AFL Mackay Clubs will go head to head in the inaugural Academy All Stars Challenge.
To increase the female football pathway, an AFL Mackay Women’s Academy was implemented to fast-track the development of the AFL Mackay Women’s competition and 7:30pm Friday night the 40-best players from across the region will go head to head.
Both sides are head-lined with star players from club Captains Alana McNabb (Eastern Swans) and Adriana Smith (Magpies Mackay) to inaugural Women’s best and fairest Lisa Millard, along with young stars Lauren Bella and Siouxie Twidale.
Former Western Bulldogs AFC Women’s team assistant coach and current AFL Queensland Regional Manager Jeff Neumann is overseeing the program as head coach will mentor club coaches Jason Ellard, Shaun Creeley, Damian Krause along with AFL Mackay Co-Directors Naomi Johnston and Vanessa Creeley.
Teams have been selected from a draft system and this will be one exciting game of football.
Regional Manager Jeff Neumann is excited about the talent that will be running around on Harrup Park on Friday night in the Academy match.
"It is exciting times for the region and in particular female footballers in the region," Neumann said.
"Forty of some of the most talented footballers in the region will take to the field, vying for representative honours," Neumann added as the outcome of the Academy game.
"We have footballers and athletes, young and experienced and it is exciting with the national Women's league around the corner."
From Friday nights fixture, 23 players will be selected to represent Mackay in the upcoming June long weekend tri-series against Rockhampton and Townsville.
