North Mackay have proven the better side on the day, as the Saints ran out 26-point victors at Zeolla Park against the Eastern Swans as Sunday football returned in the Premier Women's competition.
The match anticipated show-down between the cross-town rivals was a physical and scrappy affair with both sides not wanting to give an inch. After last years agonising Preliminary defeat, the Saints were out for redemption and they did just that.
Teresa Jenkins led the way for North Mackay booting 2-majors for the afternoon with Nikki Hancock and Kate Morley chipping in with 1 each.
Rebecca Smith was the one goal-scorer for the Swans, as both teams struggled to adjust to the strong breeze pushing across Zeolla Park in Beaconsfield. With prolific ball-winner and captain Alana McNabb missing due to representative duties, the Swans missed her class and leadership.
However, the Swans can take a-lot out of the loss and be pleased with the result considering they were understrength.
Swans defensive machine Melissa Prior laid numerous tackles to creating a number of stoppages for the game and was well supported by Mariania Raccosta and Natalie Cardamone.
For the Saints Rahnee Vaccaneo and Allyce Marchetti were fantastic and set up a-lot of their sides attacking raids.
North Mackay rocket to second place on the AFL Mackay Premier Women's ladder and will face the Bulldogs next week, with the Swans having the daunting task of facing the Magpies.
