AFL Mackay Development Officer Trainee Lyneeka Malone, who is currently undertaking a traineeship within game development has received the inaugural Chris Johnson Cup Award at the 2015 AFL Sports Ready Awards night in Brisbane.
Malone flew to Brisbane in mid-March and was short-listed as to receive the award.
The Chris Johnson Cup Award is named after the Brisbane Lions premiership defender Chris Johnson. The award has been designed to reward an indigenous person aged between 17 and 25, who has excelled in the workplace. Leadership, work ethic and the ability to work in a team were the key attributes in naming the final recipient.
The award was not only designed to benefit the recipient but also an opportunity as a personal development award for the individual.
Lyneeka exceeded these key attributes and received the award in front of a full house at the Brisbane Cricket Ground.
Lyneeka will be a-part of the tour party that will visit several Cape York communities with Malone playing a key role in both the AFL Queensland Chris Johnson and Angie Nadrere Cups later in the year. Lyneeka will assist in various roles including a role model to the indigenous youth in the communities she will visit.
With thousands of kilometres in four wheel drives across the beautiful north, this will be a trip Lyneeka will remember for a life-time.
